If we’re gonna be talking about L4D2 campaign mods, Back To School is one you. Well, the Scooby Doo mods is now available in Left 4 Dead 2 and play the world of zombie with mystery with the cast of Scooby Doo. You can download this mod now on Steam for FREE. It was developed by wookieba11s and now reaching 4,500 subscribers. We Don’t Go to Ravenholm is a gift for Half-Life and Left 4 Dead fans. As stated, the maps in this campaign feature the port of the Ravenholm maps from Half-Life 2 game. The areas of the map were modified by the creator to be suitable for Left 4 Dead 2 and have left many fans satisfied.
- 1) Installation of the Mods. Now we will come to the problem to play Left 4 Dead 2 with more than 4 players: At first you will have to install Metamod:Source & Sourcemod. Firstly download Metamod:Source. It has to be unzipped to the game folder; for Left 4 Dead 2 this is “ left4dead2 ” which can be found in the install folder.

You are only able to play Left 4 Dead 2 with 4 players like Left 4 Dead 1. But of course its stupid to limit a LAN party to only 4 person to play Left 4 Dead. I Thought s and figured out how to play Left 4 Dead 2 with more than 4 survivors!
Left 4 Dead only has 4 characters, but the game engine supports up to 12 player slots. You only need to open them so other players can connect to the game. Because I didn’t find any tutorial for beginners, I tried to make my tutorial as easy as possible.
I think you want to host a LAN game from the game itself without using a dedicated server. For this you will have to start the game with the following parameters:
-console -sv_lan 1 -sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
Using steam you can enter these parameters into the game start options; if you use a cracked version you can start the game with a shortcut to the exe.

If you haven’t already done so, you should start the game and type into the console:
bind „F12″ „toggleconsole“
Now you can always open the console with F12.
If you want to host a game you have to type
map MAPNAME
for MAPNAME you will have to choose one oft he maps (you will get a list automatically)
All Clients have to enter the game with
connect IP
(for IP they have to enter your IP)

1) Installation of the Mods
Now we will come to the problem to play Left 4 Dead 2 with more than 4 players:
At first you will have to install Metamod:Source & Sourcemod
Firstly download Metamod:Source. It has to be unzipped to the game folder; for Left 4 Dead 2 this is “left4dead2” which can be found in the install folder. If there is already a folder “addons” you are right because the “addons” folder from the Metamod:Source zipfile has to be copied to this folder so it gets integrated into the existing one.
Because Left 4 Dead has to recognize the mod, you have to copy a .vdf file to the addon folder (e.g. „left4dead2addons“). You can download this .vdf file from this page by selecting Left 4 Dead 2 as your game.
Download Mod Left 4 Dead 2
The most important Mod is the second Mod; the Sourcemod. This mod is able to use a lot of plugins but only runs if Metamod:Source is installed. Download the mod from the source above and copy the files from the zip file to your gamefolder, so that this addon folder gets integrated into the existing one.
2) Installation of the Sourcemod-Plugins
Now you have installed 2 mods, but to play Left 4 Dead 2 with more than 4 Survivors or infected you will have to install 3 Sourcemod Plugins:
[EXTENSION] Left 4 Downtown (To override the amount of playerslots to 18)
[L4D] Extra players (to create additional bots)
[L4D] Director Controller (All4Dead) (This is a admin tool; I am not sure if you really need it)

You can download the plugins by clicking the links, scrolling down and there click on the file (You don’t need to be registered). If there are several Versions download the newest which is for Left 4 Dead 2! The zip file from „Left 4 Downtown“ you should unzip into „/left4dead2/addons/sourcemod/“ like it is said in the readme.txt. The folders will be integrated into the existing ones.
The „.smx“ files of „Extra players“ and „All4Dead“ you have to copy to „left4dead2addonssourcemodplugins“.
Now you can start the game and go on ingame with the setup!
3) Ingame Setup
Before the next step you have to start a map and return to the main menu! otherwise Sourcemod will not be active and you will get „unknown command“!
Following commands you have to enter to the ingame console!
Before starting a map you will have to enter in the main menu:
l4d_maxplayers 18
to the console. So you have used Left4Downtown to unlock 18 playerslots. I think this will be enough (more isn’t possible). It’s very important to set „sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0″, because the steam-lobby isn’t able to .
Now you can start a game with „map MAPNAME“. After loading you still only see 3 other survivors; not enough for more than 4 players to join. You have to press ESC, go to the console and enter
sm_l4dbot
This will create a survivor bot named „I am no real“ which stands in front of you if you haven’t left the start area yet. This player will do nothing and gets kicked after 30 seconds; but the bot will stay and we have an additional survivor which can be played by other players! Creating bots will also work if you haven’t overrided the playerslots, but nobody will be able to control them!
If you need more players you just have to repeat the sm_l4dbot command!
Mod Left 4 Dead 2 Weapons
Sometimes players arent possible to get control of their charakter. When this happens you have to set „sv_cheats 1“ and make the player type „sb_takecontrol“ to the console!
