Changing the default Font for Footnote references in Word 2003? - posted in Microsoft Office: Does anybody have an idea how to change the default font and text size for footnotes in word 2003. I can do it manually as in highlight and right click the text and set the font that i want. Change all notes: Click one note. Blue boxes appear around all the notes in the document. Change one note: Select just the text in the note you want to change. In the Format sidebar, click the Text tab, then click the Style button. Use the controls in the Font section to change how the text looks.

This drives me crazy. For some reason, when I bring up new documents that other people have done, when I create a footnote, it is not in superscript in the text. It will be that way on a new document, so that's how the default is set, but how do I change that for a document that doesn't have that set?
Also, when I cut and paste from other documents, even if I am cutting a certain font, like Times New Roman, it still pastes as courier sometimes. How do I always make sure when cutting and pasting to a document the new text coming in will stay as the default I have set or at least stay as the type of font it was in the other doc.
Dreamboat, you better give me a satisfactory answer on this or else!

The formatting of footnotes is governed by the Footnote Text style. You can change the appearance of all footnotes in your document by simply modifyingthe Footnote Text style.

Similarly, you can format footnote reference numbers by using the Footnote Reference style. It's a character style, so it doesn't affect formatting for theentire paragraph.

Word

The initial setting for footnote text is Normal + 10 point. Therefore, footnotesare formatted in the same font that's in Normal paragraphs except that they're 10-point regardless of the Normal text size. If you want yourfootnotes to appear in a different font or size from the rest of the document, change the font or size for the Footnote Text style.

The initial setting for footnote references is Default Character Format + Superscript. As a result, footnote reference numbers print using the samefont as the rest of the text in the paragraph, except that the superscript attribute applies. If you want to see footnote references in a different font, all youhave to do is change the Footnote Reference style.

Both footnote text and footnote references automatically apply when youcreate footnotes, so you should have no reason to apply these formats directly.
